2021/2022 Summer Season Update
Published Wed 06 Oct 2021
Dear Rays Members,
WPNSW made an announcement on 27th September of their proposed plan to return to water polo for summer. In their announcement they have indicated they are having two seasons: Spring (6th Nov-15th Dec) which will be defined as a social season and Summer (29th Jan-30th March) as the competition season.
Even though WPNSW are trying to outline a pathway for clubs to participate in the spring season, there are several areas relating to restrictions which might still impact the season which are all out of the clubs control. The biggest challenges we see as a club are: pool availability based on the Office of Sport guidelines, LGA restrictions, vaccinations and the costs to participate (which are difficult to recoup). With these uncertainties, the club has decided not to participate in the spring season.
This was a difficult decision to make knowing our members are eager to get back in the pool as soon as possible. As a club we want to provide you with the best possible experience in your return to water polo. With this in mind we are very much focused on the summer season as we believe the uncertainty will be cleared up in the coming months.
Our aim is to return to training in January. We are working with Knox Aquatic Centre to secure some pool time in December with the view of holding training and clinics sessions in order to get everyone some well deserved pool time. More information about this will be communicated as we get clarity on availability.
So while it is not going to be quite the quick return to water polo, we believe it is the best we can offer both operationally and financially to our members. It’s the club’s mission to provide an inclusive water polo experience to all of our players.
So with that being said, try and get to a pool and get your swimming fitness going. https://www.sydneyrays.
There are other events in the new year that WPNW & WPA have announced which we hope to participate in as a club. https://www.
We look forward to seeing you all soon around the poolside and until then we hope you stay safe and well.
Kind regards,
Rays President
